TIP

Teach conventions throughout the year based on student papers. If you collect a paper each week and target a single skill, then post that single skill on the board with references to extra help, that should be the only time you teach it. By the end of the year you can cover 36 lessons from their own writing--more than enough. Several will need a repeat lesson, but hold students accountable for learning those skills on a weekly basis and USE student papers as your guide for what to teach.
